Size does matter when it comes to SEO

It’s no secret that I ADORE blogs.  Blogs are a boot strapping entrepreneur’s best friend.  They’re much less expensive to launch than a traditional HTML web site and much more "search engine friendly."  (The Word Press plug in which automatically generates a google compliant XML site map is an essential plug in.)

One of the advantages of a blog is that you can easily create a lot of content with a lot less effort than with a traditional HTML web site.

Dan Thies in his GREAT article on Mastering both kinds of Linking says:

Naturally, for a large site to get all of its pages indexed, it needs to have more authority (PageRank, whatever) to make that happen. But the other advantage that a large site gains, as more pages are indexed, is that they have more opportunities to create their own anchor text and link reputation within their own pages.

It just makes sense that large sites have a MUCH greater chance of getting links than a smaller site.  Large blog sites also offer a wider variety of posts to attract these links. More links can often lead to a higher page rank (but not always!)

Creating Compelling Content just got easier!

Google has announced a new service.  Read more about it here at the post:  It just got easier to deliver content readers want to see.

A really good reason why your site isn’t showing up in Google…

I began my morning as I always do, by checking my email.

Now, I’ve written previously about how my client Carol Solomon and I have formed a joint venture providing stand alone blog installations as a boot strap marketing tool for entrepreneurs. In the past two months, I’ve done dozens of these installations for both her clients and my own.

Well, this morning, I got an email from one of our first blogging clients.  She wrote to me and asked me why her site wasn’t showing up in Google yet.

She registered the domain name in January and here it is, the end of February and she STILL isn’t listed yet.  Not only has the site not had TIME to get indexed… SHE HAS YET TO MAKE A SINGLE POST!!!!

I get wanting Google to perform marketing magic for your business…. however it takes a LOT more than just registering a domain name, setting up a web site and waiting for the profits to roll in.

In this client’s case, she’s had me put up a website (in the form of a blog) and doesn’t understand WHY her web site with NO CONTENT (well, it does have the standard, "Hello World" post that comes standard with a Word Press Installation) isn’t showing up when she searches for highly competitive terms.

I’m happy to put in place the tools you need to promote your business.  A blog is a WONDERFUL web marketing tool.  A blog allows the business owner to easily update content on the web site.  The blog also encourages clients to keep that content CURRENT!  Stale copy is the key reason most web sites suck.

A blog allows you to keep your content of your web site fresh and up to date.  When you do that, you’ll find that your posts will make it into Google’s index once your blog has served it’s time in the Google Sandbox.  Actually, you’ll probably find that your posts do better than your standard web pages do, just because posts tend to be keyword specific, which is something the Googlebot loves.

However, if you think that putting up a blog with no content is going to make you millions…. well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news…but it just ain’t gonna happen.
