Blogging vs effectively communicating

Blogs are magnificent communication tools if used properly.  They have the potential to deliver compelling content very effectively to your potential customer or clients.  However, it’s essential to define your audience first so you can create compelling (and selling) content.

Blogging as a means of self expression is, of course, is the ROOT of blogging.  Blogging began as a means of self expression for those who weren’t interested in creating HTML pages.  However, savvy marketing people quickly saw blogging as a way to connect with customers and clients.   Blogging is a GREAT way to deliver the Right message in Right Manner at Right Time to the Right Person.

For example, in her post Picking the size of your Pond,  Jennifer Laycock writes:

As yourself what you can do to target a specific sub-set of the topic you plan to blog about. If you’re launching a blog on travel, you might want to do some research to see what niches aren’t yet being filled. I’d imagine it’s easier to launch a geocaching blog than a cruise blog right now. It’s probably also easier to launch a Nordic Ski Walking blog than a downhill skiing blog.

Tightly targeting your message is essential to effectively communicating.  That’s the reason why it’s hard to be a successful PUBLIC speaker and much easier to be an effective personal communicator.

Of course, when you tightly target your message, whether it’s through your blog or advertising, a beautiful thing happens: Branding!
